Tutoring

CRLA International Tutor Training Program Certification (with Logo)

The Library Tutoring Program is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). If a student is in their first semester as a tutor, they will take the 1 credit course, IS-167 to receive a certificate.

Encourage your students to attend group tutoring sessions to build study habits and review material for exams. Tutoring is available for many GE classes and some other classes as well.

Contact tutoring@tgpj.net for all your tutoring needs:

  • Recommend a student to be the next tutor for your class
  • Request tutoring for a class that is not yet supported

VL 214 Instruction Lab

The VL 214 Instruction Lab has 24 student computers, a projector, and whiteboard.

Reserve VL 214

All other Library room requests should go through Event Services using the EMS software

Cubicles

The Provost Office oversees faculty research cubicles on the third floor in the Library. Once your cubicle is arranged through the Provost Office, speak to Julissa Delgado, Public Services Coordinator, about getting a key.

 Research Help Desk

Research Help Desk

Students can talk to Librarians and trained students at the Research Help Desk (RHD). Research Help Desk Assistants can help with choosing a database, narrowing search terms, finding journal articles, putting in InterLibrary Loan requests, and creating citations. We have appointment slots available, and we welcome walk-ins.

If you would like to include a visit to the RHD in an assignment, please email askalibrarian@tgpj.net in advance with the assignment details.

Instruction

Our instruction program teaches students that research is a recursive process that includes searching strategically, wisely evaluating, and ethically integrating sources in various contexts. There are a variety of ways you can partner with Librarians for instruction.

What can Library Instruction look like?

  • In-class research demo by your Liaison Librarian
  • Librarian gives overview of research steps tailored to your discipline or assignment
  • One-on-one research consultations for students with a Librarian (requires advance coordination and is based on Librarian availability)
  • Workshop for integrating sources (quotations, paraphrase)
